Pre-requisite Swim Test

 

Note: If you’re 15 or older and looking for a great summer job or challenging career that’s in demand, the Red Cross Lifeguarding program is the place to start at Seahorse Swim Club. Our instructors demonstrate through the videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn patron rescue and surveillance skills, first aid and CPR/AED.

Prerequisites: Must be at least 15 years old and pass certain swimming requirements:

  • 300 yards continuous swim 
(100 front crawlstroke with rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing propellant kick / 100 yards breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick, glide sequence / 100 yards either front crawl using rhythmic breathing or breasstroke, may be a mixture of both strokes)

  •  Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with both hands on the object and face out of the water, and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

 

This lifeguard courses are available with a focus on a variety of environments, including pools, waterfronts, waterparks and shallow water attractions.
Course length: 30 – 37 hours; 2 year CPR/AED certification and 3 year Lifeguarding certification.

Swimming and Water Safety

 Swimming and Water Safety program encourages people to think and act safety in, on and around the water at every step. The progressive, multi-level courses build swimming skills along with a strong emphasis on drowning prevention and water safety. General water safety courses are targeted to a specific environment or age group.

Water Safety Instructors

Become a certified Red Cross Water Safety instructor. Learn to teach children and adults to swim, and give water safety presentations to kids and their parents.
(Prerequisites: Must be at least 16 and a proficient swimmer)
(Course length: 30 hours, 2 year certification)

Learn-to-Swim

Red Cross swim courses are designed to help people of all ages and varying abilities develop their water safety, survival and swim skills. Swimmers work through age-appropriate levels as they master basic through advanced skills. Choose from the following:

  • Parent and Child Aquatics (6 months to 3 years)
  • Preschool Aquatics (4 – 5 years)
  • Learn-to-Swim (6 years – adult)

Home Pool Essentials

This course teaches the basics of home pool and hot tub maintenance, along with strategies for creating a safer environment and information on how to prevent and respond to emergencies in and around home pool environments.

Safety Training for Swim Coaches

Developed in collaboration with USA Swimming, this course teaches swim coaches and other aquatic professionals how to prevent and respond to emergencies while on the pool deck.

  • Prerequisites: must be at least 16
  • Course length:30 hours, 2 years certification
